Is digital audio better than analog?

Hi I was wondering if digital audio is better than analog audio. I recently got a home theater system and I was wondering if I should spend the extra money for a digital audio connection. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks!

If you want DD/DTS, you betcha.

'cause you ain't gonna get it without a digital connection. With analog, the best you can get is some variation of DPL, which is a matrixed analog system, not a true discrete 5/6/7.1 system.

As Mark stated plus it is to your advantage to trnasfer the digital signal as far as possible before converting to analog.
