I don't think I'll ever buy a TV again.
After using my panny 900 for about two weeks I have come to a few conclusions:
1. there is no problem with space.
2. very light and portable - tv's are not.
3. take it outside on warm summer nights
4. take it in the bedroom to..... ( you can finish this sentence)
5. HD is quality
6. Movies are awesome.
7. not limited to screen size.
etc....

What about you???

I would love to own a projector. First, however, I need a suitable room...

any room with a wall is suitable.

and i forgot to mention.

for a comparable 61 rp tv i was looking at my Panny 900 was less than half the cost.
I can project any size screen i need from about 50 to 300 diag
:D

Hey TDubbs,

You are not going to waste your lamp life on that by watching Jerry Springer, Opra or Dr. Phil dont you? Thats a $300- $400 a year cost to replace.
But dont turn the power off to save on lamp life for a 15 to 30 minutes bathroom break then turn it on again. It might do more damage than saving on electric bill.
Good luck with you new toy.

That will change once you get hit hard with the replacement bulb cost.

I understand the enthusiasm. I looked long and hard at the Panny 900U package from Projector People (say that 5 times fast :D), but in the end I decided on a NEC 50XR5A plasma because a PJ just isn't practical for everyday viewing. Sports, movies and special occasions, sure, but I just couldn't see watching the 6pm news on a 100"+ screen. And that just doesn't even take into account the fact that I'd be replacing a bulb every 6-12 months minimum...

points well taken.
For my needs - after 800pm viewing sports/movies/and a few shows here and there is suits me fine.

Thanks for the on/off info about the bulb - i'll remember that one.

I guess a new daytime tv isn't out of the question.
Thanks for the input.

any room with a wall is suitable.
Any room with a wall.... and adequate light control. My living room, the only place I could put a projector, has no light control at all.

I will certainly be buying a projector when I have a dedicated theater room. :)

Now don't take this the wrong way.
I have a simple solution.

Try to find where your current tv is. the wall behind that looks like a pretty doable screen. I'ld find something to do with that small 30" tv and remove allllllllllllll the other stuff. Perhaps in a nice low level-long bench (needs to be low so your screen can start around 1.5 ft from the ground),
Invest in some nice blinds that roll up/down with BO behind them. We have them in our kids room - very nice. This should do the trick.
I watch our panny downstairs with 2 of 3 daylight windows unblocked and all but the light above our projector on. Yes there is some loss to soooo much light but I can have absolute control with the blinds and dimmer switches.

I don't want you to get into trouble but ................ why wait??

Well a simpler solution for me would be to have a roll up screen. The picture is old and my system is different now (new speakers, different locations) but the TV is still in the same place.

That's not to mention that I am a high school senior with little funds for a projector and when I have my own place I will be able to enjoy it more. :)

We love our projector, and used it as a primary viewer for a couple of years. But, reality hit us when we realized that lamps were not lasting CLOSE to rated times and when we moved, the ambient light during the daytime killed the image comletely. So, we added a 50" plasma to the setup...

Now it is double bliss. Great image all day, big screen for the special times.

That's nothing that a set of lined drapes couldnt correct:cool:

Get rid of that entertainment center will all the stuff on it, and hang your screen on that wall. Hang some 'lined' drapes, and you've got yourself a theater.

I agree, eventhough I dont have a PJ yet. I have already vowed that my current TV will be the last I will ever buy. As it stands right now, I do all my TV viewing on a 65" screen, and I already want something bigger.
It doesnt matter what the content....bigger is better!! It doesnt matter if Im watching the Bill O'Reilley Show or Star wars, a 100" screen will do just fine:)
As for worrying about bulb life??? Foooey, I dont care. It's not like I sit plastered in front of the tV every night for extended hours, so that doesnt bother me. Spending a few hundred bucks on a bulb once or twice a year isnt going to put me in the poor house.

Well I tend to get motion sickness when watching a projected image for a long period, especially when I'm playing videogames. Plus I don't like how ambient light can destroy a picture and I detest having to replace things like lightbulbs, so I'm sticking to a nice 50" plasma (which I'm gonna buy when we're moving in the new house, somewhere end of this year so hopefully there's going to be some new stuff out).

But hey, whatever tickles your fancy, sounds cool anyway.

50" plasma cool - no problem there.

I figure my projector is about $1700.
50 in plasma - $4000

$4000 - $1700 = $2300

$2300 / $500(high estimate - lightbulb) = 4 bulbs.

4 bulbs = about 5-7 yrs.

5-7yrs = new projector.

120" screen = priceless.

I know this is rather crude but - whatever floats your boat.

Why or for what purpose would you want to take the Panny into the bedroom?

I don't get it. Does the projector vibrate or something?

I'm not sure if I would want to see my "private" homemade action movies and photos on a 100" screen.

Who am I kidding. That would be awesome.
