I've got $500 burning a hole in my pocket. I was thinking about buying a new sub, but can't decide if I should get one for my HT or for my 2 channel. I have also been wanting to get into Vinyl and so I've been considering a Turntable. I'm torn between the three. Help!

Here's what I have right now.

HT =
HK AVR-3600
B&W 602 S1 Fronts
B&W LCR-60 Center
Dali Lektor 3 rears
MTX SW1212 sub
PS3 Source

2 Channel =
HK 3490
B&W 604 S3
15 year old JBL SW-1000
PS1 Source

Here's what I've been thinking. If I go with new sub I've been looking at
Used Outlaw LFM-1 EX for $550
Rumba 12 for $550
Pair of Jamo SUB650 for $250 each = $500 shipped
HSU VTF-2 MK4
SVS SB12-NSD

Would I really see a big enough difference in bass response to warrant replacing what I already have?

If I don't go for the subs, then I was considering the Rega RP1 Turntable or the Pro-Ject Debut III

Or should I consider something else altogether?

Looking at your setups the only things I would look at replacing are the subs. Both are average and don't offer much in real extension or output. What size rooms are you trying to fill with the subs ?

I own the HSU STF-2 and it's a great budget sub with real extension below 25hz. So yes. Stepping up to sub capable of good output, linear response, and extension to below 25hz will make a big difference in movies. So of the subs you are looking at I would lean towards the HSU. Especially considering it's flexibility and tuning features. It's probably going to be my next sub.

Anamorphic96 gave great advice.
I would like to add that a nice aspect of the HSU, is it has the flexibility to be a good fit for either your HT or Audio system. You can try it with different tunings in both your HT and audio systems, figure out which system you prefer to use it with, and also have a good idea of the benefit of later upgrading the other sub.

As others have said, changing the subs would be good.

The sub choice is yours >> however, I will say for one on a tight budget,
and who listens to mostly music, that the Jamo sub does look interesting.

I am waiting to see more
Jamo Sub 650 Omnimic Frequency Response Graphs

You do have some good choices on your list, and another decent one is Epik

And for a tight budget and needing 2 subs - the Energy S10.3 is a nice one,
and it will go down and is not a wimp. It is good for music and H.T.

I for sure will take that Energy sub, over JBL and MTX

Great find on Jamo sub - it's a true hidden gem

I think I'm gonna order two of those Jamo's. For $250 shipped each, I don't think I could go wrong. As for my two systems, they are technically in different rooms (though the rooms are open to each other) and much too far away to use the same sub. I'll have to play around with using the two Jamo's for 2 channel or HT. Which ever I decide, my old subs will likely go to the other system.

Sounds good - good luck and have fun!

What do you think of this option? Someone just offered me a Paradigm Seismic 12 for $650. I know it is an older sub, but it is rated at 1500w RMS and 4500w peak with a single 12" driver and two 10" Passive Radiators. Would this be better than any of the others I have mentioned?

I am sure that it will sound big and powerful - my main concern is that
it is about 8 years old. If the amp goes out, there would be no warranty.
That amp will not be cheap to replace - so, I would keep this in mind >
make sure that you can audition it.

However, this sub stars to drop off fast, from 50hz down > between 50
and 20hz, it drops about 25 db >>> and the Seismic distorts too much
after 31hz  It use to list for $1700
Product Review

I think that I would still consider some of the subs, on your origional list.

Well, I found a Simply Sounds Audio Rumba 12 over at AVSforum. It should arrive next week. I'll post my impressions. I can't wait to hear this thing. It looks like a real beast.
