Digital audio editing software?

I know there are expensive programs that do lots of stuff, but my needs are simple.
I want to be able to take a digital recording of a concert (using Zoom H2 recorder) and split the songs into individual files.
Ideally a 2 second Fade In, Fade Out would be nice; but that is not essential at all!

So, is there something out there that can do this? I'd be happy to pay about $50 for it if it is not available as freeware.

+1 on Audacity. It is as good as many pricey audio editors. There is just no reason to buy an audio editor anymore unless you need a certain feature.
