difference in receivers

kind of an open ended question, but hoping for some good, dedicated answers.

what is the difference in two receivers that are both 110x5 channels, 5.1 surround, same inputs on back and everything...but ones 230, and ones 450? what makes the difference besides brand name? I bought a receiver yesterday that was 230 from BB, and the 450 dollar one had the same features (as it appeared from the description tag), but the 450 dollar one sounded ALOT better..but the power outage seemed the same.

Thanks for any help thats offered!

Quality?

There are many ways to arrive at power ratings, some more honest than others.

But, without knowing the two receivers in question, it's impossible to go into any more detail.

Without brands and models all I can do is give you is equally vague generalities. Differences can be as simple as the quality of the components and the true vs claimed power output or how power is measured (the difference can be huge). That doesn't mean you can't find bargains but it does mean looking for a bargain instead of just buying cheap.

I guess the power output is different...but I didnt think it was..I will have to go look at that receiver they are using again. Other than that, whats the other big things.

one more thing...what do you need in a receiver to Bi-amp speakers. will a 7.1 be able to do this as compared to a 5.1? and I do mean bi-amping, not bi-wiring. I think I found a good deal, can someone tell me if this will do the job?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer+-+770W+7.1-Ch.+3D+Pass+Through+A/V+Home+Theater+Receiver/9846396.p?id=1218183106937&skuId=9846396&st=receiver&cp=1&lp=1

and what is the difference between the vsx 920k and compared to the VSX 1020k because as far as I can tell they have the same power ratings and such. Thanks again I know this must be annoying but I really appreciate it!
