I have a Samsung, model DVD8, upconverting DVD player that does a nice job on DVDs but it skips on some CDs ..ie. Metric's new CD "Fantasy" I was surprised because my old cheap Electrohome DVD player never skipped on a CD until the day it died. The Samsung is only 1.5 years old.

I don't have a BluRay player yet and its on my list of "gotta-haves" . Should I purchase a Blu Ray player and use it to play my CDs or go for a dedicated CD player instead and by the Blu-Ray player at a later date.

This is a no brainer... get a blu ray player. I would reccomend a PS3, it does pretty much everything you could want, except play SACD, and when you play a CD, it connects to the CDDB and provides all the track/artist/album info, plus it's streaming capabilites if you want to play music/video from your PC, and it has built in wireless.
