DB-25 to RCA Connectors

Is there a real valid reason why some receivers use DB-25 connectors for multi-channel input? I hardly find any DB-25 interconnect from our local AV shops. When all receivers use RCA terminals, one brand would prefer to stand out and use something odd like a DB-25. Seems this is a stupid anti-customer design that serves only the manufacturer to conserve back-panel space. What do you think?

Rotel and Adcom both used them in the past, I'm sure others did too. A real PITA in my opinion. I think it came about during the infancy of mass marketed 5.1. Tributaries, fyi, still make a nice connector. Hardly anyone stocks them, but I'm certain it could be ordered.

Yeah, I'm sure oddballs like this can be ordered. But why should a customer bother? It is a real PITA, alright. I notice Onkyo still has them.
