How does every one measure the hight of there center channel?
Myn is 2.5ft of the ground ATM perfect for kicking back and watching a film but I'm curiouse to see what every ones take is??
The height of you center, or any speaker is the distance form floor to the center of the tweeter.
Ideally that distance should be on the 36 to 40 inch range.
The next ideal is that the tweeters of the front three be at the same height.
However the optimal height for a TV screen to give the most relaxed viewing in the HT environment is around 24 inches from the floor to the bottom of the screen. Unless you screen is six inches tall or you have an acoustically transparent screen and projector, you have to move away from the ideal.
So then it becomes a question of does it go over or under?
So you have to decide do you want it too high or too low?
I think in a very small HT room I would opt for low. In a larger room like mine I opted for too high, with a coaxial driver, right at the top of the screen, with the front panel angled to the listening position.
In practice this has worked well. For movies, opera etc, then performers seem their correct height. There is good coverage of the entire space.
This arrangement has obviously caused some elevation of the overall sound stage. This however gives a good representation of the perspective from the Orchestra seating section of a concert hall. In other words the best seats in the house.
There is not generally an ideal answer to your question and the compromise will be very much room and layout dictated.
