HI guys

I know this sounds very very cheap of me.. But right now, after buying my new car and paying insurance deposite etc etc.. I am very skint..

Managed to buy a 500w 12" mutant sub-woofer for my car, off a friend for £10, BONUS :D
But i havent got an amp to power it, and i really want to test it...

So since i dont have any money spare for the next month or so, i was thinking about perhaps building a cheap and small car amp to atleast power the sub a little, just for the time being...

I am trying to find some schematics on the net for a car subwoofer amp, but unable to find one... could anyone please help me out?

Or alternatively... this sounds extremely desperate and wierd but, I have a house subwoofer, that is powered (has built in amplifier inside) which gives out 4ohm speaker power... Now since electricals like this use a transformer, to take 230v mains power and knock it down to just 12v for the components on the pcb, could i not just remove the transformer and wire it to the car battery, perhaps with a 3A fuse inbetween?

i really want to get this working, any way will do for now...

cheers

I know of no kits for car amps. They are class D to conserve power. They are difficult to set up.

By the way, a car amp has an inverter, to increase the voltage well above 12 volts. A 12 volt supply only gives you 12 watts into four ohms, a bit less actually due to losses.

Your home amp, will have lots of different voltages coming out of the power transformer. Around 90 volts to the power transistors and as low as 5 to the opamps.

So just wait until you have the money, or scour the pawn brokers.
