If I were you, I would go for a set of these:

Use the rest of your money for a sub like this:

Perhaps, even getting (2) of them. That would be an outstanding set-up imho. Duals will provide for more even bass throughout your listening area.

Cheers,

Phil

Sure ask away. If I can't answer your questions, there are many others that can. If your emphasis is on music, then it will be hard to beat what Dennis Murphy offers over at Philharmonicaudio.com. The Slims are something that you should consider as well:

The Slim towers are NOT that large. Be sure to give it some serious thought. The budget that you specified would allow for th Slim Towers and dual PSA S1500 subs. That would be fantastic set-up! One that even I would envy....LOL!!!! ;);););)

Phil

I'd suggest looking at Ascend Acoustics' Sierra-2 speakers personally (having several other models of theirs). Philharmonics are on my short list, probably Salk as well. Even for music I'd add a sub(s) to them and if going just 2-ch an integrated amp or receiver with bass management. Is the $4000 for speakers alone or everything, speakers/sub and amp? I've been using my SL1200mk2 for over 30 years....

I was just going for $4000 for speakers alone, so I'm going to want 2 subs?

Depends on room and seats to be covered as well as your extension and spl goals. I like multiple subs for lower distortion as well as smoother response throughout the room.

Hi speakerman39, tyhjaarpa, curious which ones of Philharmonic Audio's speakers have you listened to? As owners or at a show/friend's demo? Thanks
Unfortunately I haven't had change to listen any Phils as I'm from Europe. But if you search around these forums you can find quite many who either own or have heard them and every one of those that I know have liked Phils speakers a lot. Wish I had change to listen them.. I have considered ordering pair someday tho.

Well to be honest, I have NOT heard any of the Philharmonic speakers. But, I know several that own them. I trust what they have told me about them. But, I do know that YOU will get a lot more for YOUR money by buying from Dennis Murphy albeit Philharmonic Audio. For example, lets take a look at the Philharmonitors. These go for $1225 shipped whereas the Sierra 2's go for $1484 shipped.

Thus, the Philharmonitors are a bargain when compared to the Sierra 2's. Dennis does this a more a less as a hobby. He is NOT trying to get rich, but want us to enjoy high end sound. That is why YOU will always get much more for your money with Philharmonic Audio.

For the price of the Sierra 2's, you can merely get the BMR's instead:

In fact, I plan to get the Philharmonitors within the next year. Have a few things that I need to pay off first. Then, I am going with the Philharmonitors. May even just opt for the BMR's myself. Depends, on my finances at the time. Hope that answers your question?

Cheers,

Phil
