avi or mpeg to dvd software

I have a lot of home movies (my son's 1st b-day, trip to europe, etc)on my hard drive. Some are on avi files and some are mpeg files. What is a good software that I can convert it to a dvd files and burn it to a DVD+R disc.

Nero can do it, as well as Pinnacle software, and I'm sure there is some good freeware out there, check www.download.com
