acoustic/electroacoustic coupling

Hello all, here is one for you, does anyone know of an equation for summing two acousticly coupled, (or adjacent) rooms with respect to the reverb time? A site address would be handy.

Basically trying to work out the reverb time of of a room with a door to an ajoining room. I know it would be easier to measure it be I want to proove it on paper. Would be grateful. Thanks. Ryan.

Ryan,

If the rooms are large and the opening is small in comparison, and one room has much more reverb than the other, I think you'll have a hard time coming up with a single RT60 number at all.

I'll also point out that with acoustics, calculations are never a substitute for measuring. You can predict and calculate 'til the cows come home, but it will never be exactly the same as what's measured because there are simply too many variables. For example, a caculation that takes into account so many square feet of carpet won't know exactly how much your particular carpet absorbs at various frequencies.
