Thank you guys... The last few posts definitely gave me the confidence to keep looking into and studying the topic of sound systems. Honestly, after my last post I planned on staying quiet until I felt semi-confide and just sitting back to watch what everyone was posting in order to seem like I had half of a brain by the time I starts posting again lol. I will definitely be reading all of the posts, and actually look fwd to it!! If I didn't have the hanging, mounted Mirage speakers (which the rep at Best buy said aren't common, so he doubts I could replace them with better hanging speakers) I'd definitely look into getting some more. Anyways, thanks again for the awesome info

Anyone ever hear of these bad boys?? For $100 people gave them great reviews... Still gonna check more out though as the holes in the wall to the left and right of my TV that the mounted Mirage system would leave is not desirable.

Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System

These are what I have now: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_653NANO51B/Mirage-Nanosat-5-1-Compact-Home-Theater-Speaker-System.html?stop_mobi=yes

Most of the users of the Mirage system that I have claimed that they were pretty darn good (besides the sub) on other websites, but I HAD to check with the professionals here lol. Has anyone experienced the Mirages in person or saw the specs to give an opinion the simply the capabilities/performance of the system?

I would reconsider what you are trying to achieve. If it was me I would put my money toward a new front sound stage and a sub. If you are open to that. A receiver is not going do much to improve your sound quality.

While the Mirage set is not bad for its purpose, it is a far cry from good sound. I too feel that your receiver is fine (even though it does not support the latest audio formats). The biggest improvement in your case will be achieved by getting better front speakers, Left, Center and Right. For now, leave everything else as it is. So, receiver, surround speakers and sub stay.

Replace the LCR with Affordable Audio Loudspeakers, http://philharmonicaudio.com/folio-me/html/Phil Pages/AALS.html. If you want, replace the sub with, SVS PB1000, http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/ported-box/PB-1000.

This will make an improvement order of magnitude more discernable than keeping the Mirage set and upgrading the receiver.
