    5.1 speakers w/7.1 receiver

Or, depending on the reciever, you could have front presence speakers.

How to hook up center speaker to a receiver with two center outputs.

I did have a manual for the STR-D1011. It says to use the + from one side and the - from the other. I hope this helps.

How to hook up center speaker to a receiver with two center outputs.

I had an old Sony 1000 series receiver pretty close to what you are describing (the last two numbers changed depending on the model year). Initially, I thought my center channel was broken until I stuck another speaker wire into the other side of the center channel (my friend gave it to me sans...

Connecting my amp and my player with 5.1 DTS

I'm pretty sure that you need to run cables from the 5.1 out of the back of the DVD player into the back of your receiver (which will take a lot of cables). The better alternative is to get an optical cable. Obviously this is for audio only and you will need separate cables to run your video.

    Yamaha RX-V2500 Center Amp problem

Originally, I had some difficulty plugging a cable into the optical input into my 2500. I may be stating the obvious here, but have you determined if the optical cables are 100% connected?

    2500 & Component Video

Quick question: I know that there are 3 component video inputs on the back of my RX-v2500, but I recall reading here that 2 are fast and one is slower than the others. Currently, I am using all three and having an issue when I run an Xbox game at 720p or better - I get the blue screen. I have...

    "Dangers" of Online retailers ?

For me, there has always been an advantage of buying locally and that is instant gratification. I get to take the unit home with me and I don't have to worry about damage during shipping or having it get home and realize that it wasn't a new item (even though it was described as New or...

    Yamaha Rxv2500 receiver fan question?

This has been heated question in the past (pun intended). For most of us that own a 2500 and keep it in an enclosed space, it does run a little hot. A couple of people I have seen posts from have converted a PC fan and then plugged it into the "switched" outlet on the back of the receiver. I...

best way to mount bookshelf speakers

I guess this project all depends on your budget and the weight of the speakers. I went to Home Depot (or the Blue Home Depot would work just as well) and bought a product that allows you to mount a shelf on the wall without brackets. It is a pretty neat little product that is like a half...

    B&W CM 2's as mains?

I have an excellent opportunity to get 2 pairs of B&W CM 2's (with stands) for an exceptional price (from a friend who upgraded). One set of speakers and one set of stands are still in the original packaging and unopened as he bought these for future "presence" speakers in a 6.1 or 7.1 setup...

    Mitsubishi Promise Module

I have an older Mitsu HD ready tv that has only two component inputs (one is slower). Currently, I am running everything through my Yamaha, but I feel at some point I will need another component input. I remember the talk of the Promise Module but can't seem to find anybody selling them...

    Sony and Cable Card

I spent over 3 hours with my Cox Cable installer yesterday trying to install a cable card. My sony KD-30xs955 sees the cable card just fine, but I can't receive any of the digital channels. Cox tells me it is a firmware problem, but when I contact Sony via their online chat system they tell me...

    noobie question

Let me address the warranty issue with a strange answer - it depends. It depends on what type of receiver you are buying and whether the warranty is from the original manufacturer. For example, Denon and Yamaha state that they will only do warranty work if the unit was purchased from an...

    Dish Receiver Optical Out

I was told that if you want a DirecTV HD tuner, that they are the only ones producing those units. I am sure that there are still some on the shelves from other manufacturers, but I would worry about warranty and replacements.

RX-V2500 cooling fan not working!? Help.

There were a couple posts a while back about cooling the 2500. The gist of it was this: Make sure you have head room above your receiver as well as enough holes in the back of your cabinet. So much of the new oak cabinets that are housing wide screen TV's etc. were not designed with cooling...

Am I loosing my Audio Senses?

Not sure if this is an option with your model, but do you have your rear speakers plugged in to the Rear Presence as opposed to Surround Back? As for the sub, are you running a single LFE cable to your powered sub or to your subwoofer amp? If so, maybe you have it plugged into the wrong...

    2500 and setting crossover

The Bose are about 1.5 to 2 years old - Series IV for the 601's and Series V for the 301's. So are you saying that I should set my Yamaha crossover at 100 or even 120? No complaints with the NHT - I wish I would have gotten the 12 or a bigger amp. or maybe I just don't have it tweaked...
