    Svs sb2000 or pb2000

I have 2 PC-2000 subs in a small (approximately 1500ft3) room, and they are not boomy at all. In fact, I can't tell they are on when playing normal music. They just seem to extend the range of my Prime Bookshelves when needed. I used to have a single SB-2000 in their place, and although the...

    1 or 2 SUBS?

I own a pair of PC-2000 subs, which are very similar to your PB-2000. I noticed that running a pair eliminated localization issues I had with just one. With music, where a lot of the bass resides in a higher frequency range, I could feel the side that had the subwoofer was always a bit thicker...

Def Tech StudioMonitor 65 before and after break-in period

I also like the SM-65 speakers a lot. Initially I bought just a pair for 2 channel music (no sub). I noticed that the sound loosened up and became smoother in the first few hours of operation. Later, when I bought 3 more to complete my home theater, I confirmed this by switching between new and...

    2 x SVS SB2000 or 2 x RBH I-12e or 1 of each?

shadyJ is right. When I bought the system for my bedroom I initially went with SB-2000, but was a bit underwhelmed by its performance for movies. I exchanged it for PC-2000 and it's a night and day difference. Not only does the cylindrical sub hit stronger in the 20 Hz region, it also does so...

MAXIMIZING THE USEFULNESS OF A HOME THEATER WITH 2 CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKERS

OP, I read the entire thread but and still can't see any other benefits afforded by this setup. What am I missing? The added cost figure seems low to me. Don't we need to purchase an extra (matching) speaker for this? In my case that purchase alone would amount to $450. When you place 2...

MAXIMIZING THE USEFULNESS OF A HOME THEATER WITH 2 CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKERS

OP, the thing you are proposing offers one minor benefit and a lot of drawbacks. Pros: * Those sitting to the side of the screen hear all the sounds emanating from the center. This solves the balance issue in stereo and surround modes (to a lesser extent). Cons: * Having to...

    Help needed : SVS pb-2000 or Klipsch R-115SW ???

I bought an SB-2000 for my 1500ft3 room, but later decided to upgrade to PC-2000. The sealed sub excelled at low and mid bass, but ultra low register was much weaker in comparison. The ported sub really does have much more low frequency bass. What surprised me is how good it sounds playing...

OPPO UDP-205 Universal Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Preview

If my listening consists of streaming music off YouTube, playing CDs and mp3 files, would 205 model make any difference in sound reproduction? Vast majority of music I like is not and will never be available in high resolution formats.

OPPO UDP-205 Universal Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Preview

I believe you pay the extra money for the upgraded audio section. I once owned Oppo 105 player for a day. I was not impressed with the grainy picture it was outputting. Plus, high electrical interference in my place tricked the soft touch buttons into randomly skipping tracks. I posted on this...

Review of the Definitive Technology Studio monitor line

I like these speakers as well. I also find them natural sounding and not fatiguing. One of my systems consists of 5 SM-65 monitors (fronts, surrounds, center) powered by Emotiva XPA-5 amp with a pair of SB-13 Ultra subs. Another is a pair of SM-55 powered by Emotiva XPA-200 and SB-2000 sub for...

    Advice needed for a newbie

Well, sometimes simply getting along well with neighbors is not enough. I am on good terms with mine from a house next door, and they often stop by to check out the garden. But I am always very conscious of them being next door no matter what time of day or night it is. They are an elderly...

Does anyone else think the new Elac Concentro is absolutely hideous?

Tip them over and they could pass for giant luxury car armrests.

Human Perception is the #1 variable

Interesting topic. I cannot say with certainty that I my systems sound different to me day to day, but I rarely sit down to listen and often move about the room during playback. I think I felt on certain days lack of bass or strangely shrilling highs, but I cannot be sure. Here are some...

Audioholics: please tell me if I’m crazy (for considering a subwoofer purchase)

I think there is a way to diminish this effect if it's not specific to my speaker/sub combination. See, I never removed the bumper feet from either speakers or subwoofers. I think placing them both flat on large pieces of rubber or yoga mats would decrease the shaking.

Audioholics: please tell me if I’m crazy (for considering a subwoofer purchase)

My apologies for hijacking the thread. I just tried the following: I took a musical instrument digital tuner, set it to sound a 440hz tone and rapidly shook my hand with an amplitude of one inch or so. Normally pure sound became jittery. While my speakers never approached one inch amplitude, I...

    How do I educate myself?

jcriggs, thanks for your advice. I always try to use amplifiers that fall within my speakers' power ratings. For example my mains, center and surround are rated at 250 watts RMS each, so I use a 200 watts/channel Emotiva amp for them. My stereo system's speakers can take 225 watts each, so I use...

Audioholics: please tell me if I’m crazy (for considering a subwoofer purchase)

The speakers shook back and forth sympathetic to some low frequencies subwoofers were emitting. I didn't try rubber mats or any other resonance-damping material. When I first purchased my SB-2000 subs I noticed they were too light for their power and were vibrating while in use. I ended up...

Audioholics: please tell me if I’m crazy (for considering a subwoofer purchase)

James, I was thinking about doing that a few months ago. I own SVS Prime Towers and they are not tall enough for the tweeters to be at ear level the way I usually sit. I wanted to place them on top of my SVS SB-2000 subs to raise the tweeters and mitigate any localization issues (not that I...

    How do I educate myself?

MrBoat, this is some good advice. I understand perfectly what you say about being theoretically right vs going for what sounds good to you. And your guitar playing example is great because as a part-time music teacher for many years I dealt with this attitude quite often. There really are no...
