NAD 9060 as home theater amp, avr for affordable pre/pro?

TV is a 50" Samsung 1080p Plasma purchased in 2008 - still a great picture. Nothing 4k. However, I expect to buy a projector for this setup in the coming year, moving the TV to another room. I could consider pre/pro with other future equipment upgrades in mind, but the latest & greatest...

NAD 9060 as home theater amp, avr for affordable pre/pro?

Since I have this 9060 I'd like to use it, and it should be adequate power for surrounds & center for theater. But I know I will want/need more power for the fronts. The HDMI connections will be for feeding tv through it (Dish) and PS4 (streaming and blu-ray). Those are both currently connected...

NAD 9060 as home theater amp, avr for affordable pre/pro?

Now here's a thought, since I'm trying to think how to use this 9060. This gift is just prompting me to spend more money, but it may still play a useful role. I wonder if it would be worth buying a more powerful stereo amp, just for my fronts, and let the 9060 power all other channels? Then...

NAD 9060 as home theater amp, avr for affordable pre/pro?

TLS Guy, your point about losing the amps when the AVR is out of date is exactly the pinch I'm feeling now. AcuDefTechGuy would probably say AVRs are inexpensive for what they deliver. If I set aside more $ for a better amp, that might be something I could use for 20 years (which is an idea I...

NAD 9060 as home theater amp, avr for affordable pre/pro?

Thank you all for your comments, and especially to TLS Guy for the Marantz offer. You have an amazing setup. I guess I got overexcited about the gift. Definitely misunderstood the power as 80w in 8ohms. I'll find some other application for it - seems many use it for outdoor speakers. Anyway my...

NAD 9060 as home theater amp, avr for affordable pre/pro?

Hi Folks, I was just gifted a NAD 9060. I am thinking this gives me a great path towards a better sounding home theater set-up than most AVRs (which is what I've always had). My current AVR is a NAD 744. It is lacking in connectivity (no HDMI). I have looked at a few surround pre/pros and so...

Older Excellent sub vs new affordable?

$750 is my price range. Intermezzo's MSRP was $1800 when it was new, though I'm sure it sold for less even when it was new. I should also add that the room is rather large. Not a high ceiling but finished basement that runs full length of my house, at least 2500 cubic feet of space.

Older Excellent sub vs new affordable?

Reading this old review of the Intermezzo re-ignited my interest: http://www.soundandvision.com/content/subway-series#sAu4jMI57Lm7cB4o.97

Older Excellent sub vs new affordable?

Hi All, I'm considering the purchase of an Infinity Intermezzo 1.2 which was produced 2001-2002 and is in excellent condition. Now, this Intermezzo is in my price range. I had an Infinity Interlude (IL100s) and was always very happy with this little brother to the Intermezzo. Reviews of the...

Need sub with low-pass filter & line 'out' -- suggestions?

Hi All, how common is this feature? I need a sub that let's me manage the crossover (low-pass filter) then gives me a left & right line out to send back to a separate amp. My own Infinity Interlude iL100 does this, but this is for another location and I'm not giving mine up. I'm not aware of...

Pioneer SP-PK52FS 5.1 Speaker System Review

Nearly bought them Helpful review. I auditioned the towers to compare them to a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7's I found on Craigslist. Buying something new vs used certainly interested me. They did sound amazing for their price range (which is where I needed to be looking/listening). However...

Beginning w bookshelf speakers, building around sub toward 5.1

This morning I found a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7 on Craigslist -- $200 for the pair. Retired gentleman selling them. So they're not coming out of a dorm room. He's downsizing. I didn't get what version they are but would expect them to be older 7s. Still a great deal for Paradigm, yes? He...

Beginning w bookshelf speakers, building around sub toward 5.1

Hi folks, I found a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7s for sale on craigslist -- $200 for the pair. Seller is retired, I don't know what version of the monitor 7 we're talking about -- but even if they're the first run, $200 for the pair seems like a great deal. Thoughts? Pictures provided look...

Beginning w bookshelf speakers, building around sub toward 5.1

Thanks for the link -- the company does get some good praise. Will look for more comments specific to Cinema 5. Getting the 5 without the sub would be important as mine will get the job done for a while. Anyone else able to weigh in on these EMP Tek speakers?

Beginning w bookshelf speakers, building around sub toward 5.1

Any thoughts on going with the center first, then getting the matching front left & right afterward? Bad idea? You never hear of anyone auditioning a center. Thanks for mentioning the Pioneer line -- I did come across an article about Andrew Jones & Pioneer. Wasn't crazy about the look of...

Beginning w bookshelf speakers, building around sub toward 5.1

Hi All, New here. I've been doing a bit of speaker research and was finding a lot of helpful info reading your forums. So now I'm looking for more specific advice. I'm on a $400 budget for purchasing speakers. The good news is that I already have an Infinity Interlude 100 for a sub. (gave...
