Integrating Monitor Speakers w. Sub for 2.1 Music?

LOL Ears to you - I have a pair of Harbeths so I've been to Alan's site many times. It's been a real eye-opener to hear what he has to say, as he uses science and a bit of psychology for his arguments. He has numerous examples posted, as to how unreliable our senses can be, and describes a...

Small, pretty bookshelf speakers that sound good

My wife and I got finished with a big reno a couple years ago, and I ended up with a pair of Harbeth P3's. I didn't want big ugly speakers any more then she did... They're only about a foot tall, no ports and come in really nice finishes. You said that you're looking for a rich laid back...

    The absence of negative reviews

I don't follow reviews anymore, but I used to like the British mags because they seemed to pan gear a lot more. They'd give a negative review and I'd later find positive reviews in the US magazines. I also liked how the Brit mags did shootouts with a panel - so something in the list would have...

Need help choosing a pair of decent towers for less than $1400

Right - I haven't had an amplifier with any kind of tone controls for a while now, so I forgot about that option... I miss my old integrated that had a nice 5-band EQ...

Need help choosing a pair of decent towers for less than $1400

That's the big question: If a tower is designed well! IMO, the well designed towers are usually above this price range... With the exception of the floorstanders that I mentioned, I agree with AcuDefTechGuy - a pair of monitors and a good sub, could give great results. Like he said, with a...

Need help choosing a pair of decent towers for less than $1400

You have a lot of great options in your price range... Here are a couple of ideas: Vandersteen 1C - Classic 1st order design, hasn't changed much over the years (good thing) - still a great price... Ohm MicroWalsh Tall - These are real sleepers - easier to place than the Vandys - big, big...

    Harbeth or Silverline? Please vote

I vote for Harbeth P3's. Harbeths are actually designed to perform at lower volume levels (they sound nice loud, too). The P3ESR is a broadcast monitor that's designed to be listened to all day, at reasonable levels. I use a pair in a co-op apartment building, so I have to be careful of...

    Totem Acoustic

I'm not a huge fan, they're ok - they look cool - but they're sort of boom 'n sizzle... I remember hearing the Mani-2's at a hi-fi show, and Vince, the owner was demo-ing them. They were all about how much bass you could extract from a smallish cabinet - nothing about sounding natural (or...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

For the record, I used to hear lots of differences between amplifiers, and I've owned a few... But a couple of years ago when I was looking for a pair of monitors, my view on this changed when I bought a pair of Harbeths. Alan Shaw, the owner/head designer of Harbeth, has a user group forum...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Who said this is going to be a DBT? ABX, DBT - all of that is unnecessary. If Gene properly level matches these amplifiers, even if the listener knows which amp they're listening to, they still won't hear a difference from one component to the next. If they do, it's because one is louder than...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

If you build up a simple relay A/B box that can you switch remotely and instantly you should be good - even if the listener knows which amp is playing - but the key is to level match the amps (within 0.1dB). You can never rely on audio memory (even a couple seconds or more) and the amps have...

Vandersteen 1C or PSB Image T6

Nice! If you liked Vandys, you'll definitely like the MicroTalls. They both have smooth, open, natural sound - but the Ohms are much easier to position. Both speakers are a cut above psb's - IMO (I've owned all of them). Have fun with 'em!
