    Mirage OM Design

The full line is now on the Mirage website. The 28s are $7500\pr. I think the 15s are supposed to be around $3500\pr. Very anxiously awaiting reviews of the new series. This is the first chance Welker has had to prove that his design works at the high-end level and is better than Paisley's...

    Is Sony really that bad?

Not a fan. There may still be some quality left in Sony ES products (but I think even that is fading). The regular stuff, I'd stear clear. Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, etc are just all around better.

New Elites 74TX vs older say55txi?

I don't recommend the 55TXi. If you want to go for one of the older A.D.E. MOSFET receivers, get a 56TXi. It sounds much better than the 55. The 56 sounds fantastic driving my OM-10s, and blends very well with my Parasound (also a MOSFET design) which drives my OM-6s and OM-C2. In my...

Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi - Here it Comes!

Same here. The 56 has the copper chassis, a proper remote, proper power supply, and its old school MOSFET amps have more muscle when driving multiple channels than the 74. I have no interest in a receiver with HDMI switching unless its 1.3. Also, I've got a Custom Power Cord Company Top Gun...

    Need Assistance Selecting Speaker Wire?

I've had very good results with surplus mil-spec silver coated copper teflon wire. A 50ft, 12AWG roll is maybe $20. It's funny, some companies like XLO and Tara Labs say that silver coating is the worst thing you can do to speaker wire. Other companies like Nordost and Wireworld use it in their...

Def Tech Mythos Versus Mirage Omniosat v2

I didnt say I dont like Def Techs. It's just that HT mag seems to love everything they do the way Car and Driver loves BMW. Def Techs are good speakers, but HT gives them like 98\100 scores, better than any other speaker I've ever seen reviewed in the magazine, regardless of price.

Def Tech Mythos Versus Mirage Omniosat v2

Home Theater magazine likes everything Definitive Tech does A LOT. Not even speakers like Revel score as high as Def Tech in their reviews. There's also an awful lot of Def Tech ads in HT mag. Coincidence?

Def Tech Mythos Versus Mirage Omniosat v2

If you are considering the V2 FS, I would definitely suggest waiting until March, when the new OMD line will be available. The OMD version of the Omnisat looks gorgeous, and will probably sound a lot better than the V2s do (though their sound is still quite good). These OMD bookshelfs will...

    New Mirage ML Omnipolar speakers

Strangely, there was basically zero coverage on the net of the new Mirage speakers shown at CES. After showing the new flagship "OM Design" series at Cedia, Mirage's latest is the ML, which should price around the level of the old OM speakers.

    Separate amp for Bose 901

Considering the 4" paper drivers involved, I'm guessing the 901s are not fond of a whole lot of power. Consider other speakers, any other speakers. You can now buy speakers very cheaply that incorporate multiple drivers specifically designed for different frequency ranges! Apparently its all...

B&K amp specs are "greek to me"

Thats one of the things I dont like about B&K. "Real" amplifiers should have 20hz-20khz ratings. Also, the S\NR rating is rather mediocre, and THD is not terribly impressive either.

    Which receivers do you want/recommend?

Bryston, Classe, Simaudio, Linn etc. are all good, but no two names speak louder than Krell and Mark Levinson. They are the heavy weights. To a lesser extent McIntosh and Audio Research also rank way up there.

    Denon 4306 and Marantz SR8500

The Marantz has a different sound compared to the Denon, its closer to Pioneer Elite. If you want the capabilities of the 4306 with a sound more like the SR8500, consider the Elite 74TXVi. You can get one for a little over $1000.

    Difference in fidelity?

Even if all amplifiers in the world sound exactly the same, provided they are not stressed beyond their capabilities (which I dont buy at all) there's still the pre-amp section in both of these receivers, which also has probably more of a sonic signature than the amplifier sections. Denon...

    Denon link or HDMI

No, the 2805 doesnt have iLink. You need at least a 4306 for that. iLink can pass Dolby or DTS signals, DVD-A PCM, or SACD DSD.. though bass management settings and the like generally dont work without a conversion to PCM, at least at the receiver end. The current version of Denonlink can do the...

Need Help Picking New A/V Receiver

I recommend the Pioneer. MCACC blows YPAO out of the water, and frankly, I've always found Yammies to be great with HT, but lousy with music. (Just MO). I dont have enough experience with Yamaha electronics to comment on build quality, but it would be hard to top the build quality of receivers...

    Denon link or HDMI

Denon link is great if you have an all Denon system, but otherwise its basically useless. The nice thing about 1394\Firewire\iLink, is that its an open standard. Any device with the ports can talk to each other.

    Have you compared these subs?

In my experience, the most musical subs are always sealed box designs. Ports, no matter how well designed, are a compromise of accuracy for output.

Onkyo SR803, plus a HDMI receiver question...

I'd suggest Marantz SR-8500, Denon 3806, or Pioneer 74TXVi. Onkyo used to build great products, but their quality has taken a serious nose dive. The 8500 technically has DVI switching, but thats close enough. The HDMI 1.1 ports currently on receivers are already obsolete, anyway. The Pioneer has...

    Processor or High End Receiver?

Anthem is going to release a version of the AVM30 and the Statement version with HDMI switching soon. Since you've already got a Halo A51, have you given thought to the matching Halo C2 or C1 SSP?
