      I'm going to agree on that. The issue is DAC is bought and used unnecessarily, regardless of it's cost. In reality dac is VERY simple device and it cost pennies on the dime to make a good one - just buy $2 Wolfson (TI) chip add some passive elements and there you go.
      It does take a bit more to make great DAC, but it's facing problem of diminishing return since going from good DAC to great could MAYBE make 1% difference. Hardly a good value.
