    Default Def Tech BP-10s

    Hi,

After reading a lot of positive reviews on the original Definitive Technology BP-10s I bought a pair in great shape last weekend for $340. I gave my son my Sound Dynamics Reference Series 616s. He is thrilled. I'm not so sure I am thrilled. I go back and forth between loving the Def Techs and thinking they sound odd. They go deeper in the bass than the Sound Dynamics, but they produce a wall of sound and you can't really hear musicians on a soundstage like you could with the SDs.

I think I need to play around more with placement, but does anyone have any experiences to share regarding the Def Tech BP-10s? These are the version with the Vifa soft-dome tweeters.

    Thanks in Advance.

Try pulling them as far from the wall as you can - like 2 to 3ft. Keep from side walls also by 3ft.

ADTG is right. BP10s are bipolar. If you don't give them enough "breathing room", you're not getting the full depth that they can reproduce.

I've run into the same problem with my BP7006 towers, but I accept it until I have a better environment to use them. Although I'm strongly considering selling my full set and buying all Mythos to wall mount.

    Smile getting them dialed in

I have been fooling around with the placement and I believe they are starting to click in the room, which is an open concept design and has a 19-foot cathedral ceiling. I bought Bonnie Raitt's Slipstream CD and the Def Techs sounded impressive on some of that material. They remind me of my old Maggie SMGa speakers in that they vary on how they sound depending on what type of music they are playing. My old Sound Dynamics Reference 616s seemed to be a little more forgiving, sounding consistently good on most material, but the Def Techs are definitely growing on me.

I've owned the BP10B. I thought they sounded very good.
