Which 3D BD

I have finally ordered my new home theater equipment. The entertainment center is a Sauder 402743 and a Samsung UN55ES6500F TV. The receiver is a Denon AVR-3312CI with 3 Acsend Acoustics CMT-340 SE and 4 CBM-170 SE speakers, and a SVS PC12-NSD sub.

My wife chose the TV and entertainment center and let me choose the audio equipment. She had given me a $3000 budget, but I ended up spending just under $3200 for everything.

The only thing we still need is a 3D BD since the TV she decided on is 3D. I am thinking a Panasonic DMP-BDT220, but I am open to suggestions. I just don't want to spend to much, since I did go over budget on the audio equipment.

You could probably find a used PS3 for a decent price. May or may not work for you, just a suggestion.

The Panasonic is what I recommend. The PS3 is nice, but you really need to get their remote with it, and it isn't exactly inexpensive. No really solid 'universal' remote option out there... Maybe Logitech has one. But, a bit pricey.

The Panasonic is traditional and just works.

I would not get the Sony first, and their price really isn't any better. They also have reports of very slight processing changes in some of their players which would constantly bug me wondering if I was seeing the actual picture as intended from the disc itself. But, with how LED/LCD already pushes image quality around, it may be just fine.

No Samsung or LG or cheaper.

You don't need the PS3 remote. It is a bluetooth remote and a pain to deal with. I bought the Niko (i think it's called blu wave) remote for about $20, but I bought it to just get the IR dongle. I programmed my universal IR remote to control the PS3 and use the dongle to get it to work on the PS3. It does use 1 USB slot on the PS3 with this method though.

Yeah, true enough. I've never had much problem with the triangle, square, etc, b/c you don't really "need" those to play blu rays. My universal works just fine to navigate menus and get the BD going just fine. You are correct on the power on/off though and I forgot about that, but usually if I'm watching a BD then I am at the PS3 to insert it and that turns it on when you insert the disc. I do have to manually turn it off or just grab the PS3 controller.

I'm a gamer too, so it's worth the hassle and extra money for me. But for a pure BD player, there are certainly cheaper and more user friendly options out there.

But, the PS3 has been consistently ranked as a top bluray player, and you will never have to worry about it having dated firmware. When I purchased mine, it probably was the best on the market.

If you may want to play a game or 2, then it is certainly a good player and gaming device.
