    Default phono cable too short

Hey ya'll, i was wondering whether i could use a phono pre-amp in-line as a cable extender for my old pioneer pl-514 to my denon avr 2105 phono input?
the main reason for this is that i have a 12 foot run from the TT to the amp and i dont want to get into replacing the current rca/gnd setup
    thanks for any advice!!
    Cheers,ScottyMac

You could, in fact you SHOULD, use that standalone phono preamp as an extender for that additional length. What that will do is amplify (and provide RIAA equalization) to that low-level phono cartridge signal so it can carry over a greater distance.

But instead of feeding it into your Denon's phono input you'll need to feed it into an "Aux", or high level, input on your Denon. The signal has already been boosted to what the Denon's internal phono amp would do. It'll be over-driven otherwise.

I wonder If I would benefit from one? I have a Onkyo TX 707 with a phono input. I just hooked up my turntable yesterday, while it sounds ok maybe this will make it sound crisper/fuller? Good one? http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-PP40...ref=pd_cp_MI_0

Joe, I doubt very much that preamp would be any better than the MM input on your 707, Onkyo has a decent phono stage on their receivers, your 707 has the same stage as the higher end models, what cart. are you using, I would look at that first, just my 2 cents.

I have the Shure 97xe cartridge cartridge which I installed yesterday. I also bought a new head shell because the other one was too loose. Got that yesterday after waiting almost 2 weeks. Short story first one got lost in transit. The new Is much better and looks nice. Like I said I think It sounds ok, but with these things popping up thought I'd ask. How ya new speakers treating you? You missed the Infinities 162's? I sold mine too. Something was just missing with them.
