Ysp-1000 Vs Rx-v1600

I just recently purchased a new 50" Grand Vega HD TV and I want to add a new surround system to go with it. I am torn between a Yamaha RX-V1600 receiver and a Yamaha YSP-1000 sound projector. My room isn't perfectly symetrical so I am not sure that the YSP-1000 will work to my satisfaction. I currently have an older Yamaha receiver with older speakers and it worked great. If I go with the RX-V1600 I would like a suggestion for rear surround speakers also. The front speakers are Cerwin Vega and the center speaker is a Yamaha.

The Rx-v1600 will have a better sound. The YSP-1000 is more for people who don't want to have speakers & wires all around the room.
Speakers are a very personal thing. So many to choose from. What I, or others may like, you may not. But it would be best if all your speakers match as closely as possible. If not all, then at least the front three as they will carry most of the load. Have you had a chance to run out to hear a few speakers? Do you have a budget?

My budget is $2500 for everything. I don't want to replace all my speakers only the two rear surround speakers. I would prefer small enough speakers to mount high on th wall.

New HT system

I agree that a good yamaha receiver and 5.1 speaker system will provide superior performance in your price range. I think it is important that you upgrade your front and center channel so that they will tonally match.
Here are some suggestions:

Refurbished Yamaha RX-V2500 or 1500 from ubid ($4-500)

Axiom Audio M22's, VP150, and QS8's or similar speaker system from Paradigm, PSB, etc. (<$1500)

12" sub from SVS or HSU ($500)
