These speakers are 150 watts rms , got a Kenwood KM-207 Power amp , 200 WPC rms (according to info from amp section in these forum)on the way. Also a Kenwood KC-207 preamp , and a Yamaha C-50 Preamp for my future system, will purchase the M-80 by Yamaha down the road.I have a Yamaha receiver right now (60 wrmspc) and the speakers sounded awesome , but IMO grossly underpowered.Had to turn the volume up to 70-75 % to hear them well. Will these speakers handle the output of the 207 as long as I keep the volume in check? I have heard that overpowering speakers is better than underpower , less distortion. Is this true? And , will I get the "thunder" I am seeking from this setup?
TIA ,
Peter

Yes, an underpowered amplifier will clip the output signal and send DC to the speakers which fries the voice coils. A more powerfull amplfiier is less likely to do this.

I'm a huge fan of Polk speakers...especially any of the older models. They don't get a fair shake in the 'audiophile' crowd for whatever reason (probably too affordable) but with very few exceptions you can keep upgrading your sources and the speakers will sound better and better. If you like them, keep 'em! :D

Guess what, I just answered this in the amp post. The RTi10s are actually rated for 300W and it's been found that they present a 4 ohm load when mono-amped. The 207 will power them effectively on its own.

Oops, the RTi10 ≠ RT10. Yes, the 207 will definetley power the RT10s effectively. Only you can decide what constitutes the right amount of thunder or thump. BTW, the 106 @ 125W should also power the RT10s sufficiently. You've got the power, so play away.:D :D
