Your opinion on this set-up please

Dear audioholics
I've been researching a new audio system for a few weeks and I'm looking for some advice as I'm not really sophisticated.

My constraints are really price and size. I'm looking for a 2.1 set-up and he smallest subwoofer possible.
I came up with the following set up and wanted to gather some opinions
Marantz NR1403 AV $399 and
Cambridge audio Minx S212 v2 - 2.1 $569

Any views/input would be very much appreciated

The receiver is nice but you can get much better speakers and a subwoofer for that price. What is it about that setup that attracts you?

Sats are spec'd only down to 120hz - this will leave you with pretty nasty hole in upper bass

You'd probably better of with Active monitors like these : Amazon.com : JBL LSR2325P Two-Way 5" Bi-Amplified Studio Monitor : Studio Audio Monitors : Musical Instruments
You'd find they have surprising amount of bass for relatevely small speakers

I chose the set-up for the size - the Sats are tiny and the subwoofer is a 8.5" box, which is the size i need to fit in the corner of my livingroom.

You seem to have your mind made up - and are looking for approval only

However, this is the smallest that I would go for - and Focal is nice/good
The sats (5" woofer) - a real good brand new price

And the Sub
FOCAL Cub3 8" 150W Powered Subwoofer Black | Accessories4less

Less expensive than the Cambridge

Now it is in your hands - your call

Thanks this is very helpful..I managed to negotiate with the wife and it looks like I may be able the get a sub e size of this focal..which is good news.. I'm still negotiating on the speakers but this looks like this is going to be tough.. Any recommendation for speakers, which are the size of the Cambridge minx min 11? Or am I just dreaming and there's no way I can find decent satellite that size to work with a 8" sub?

Thanks the KEF look really nice...do you think I could go down in sub quality to lower the price a bit more or it is asking for too much given the size constraint?

The Cambridge bass is -3db around 165 hz - I would skip them and the
others like them

Kiss the wife, tell her you love her - then buy some bigger speakers, with
Focal on the short list!

That is really, as small as I would prefer.
