Vitamix had a demonstration at my local Costco a couple of weeks ago. I was hooked on that blender the minute I saw it. It literally chops up and blends anything you throw at it. Anyway, with no self control I ended up purchasing one. A damn expensive blender!
I've been making smoothies almost everyday since I got this blender. I don't like the creamy taste, so I just leave milk out of the recipie. My favorite so far is strawberry, red grape smoothie. Just some fresh red seedless grapes, some frozen strawberries, add some water or pineapple juice, and some ice. And 10 seconds later you have your smoothie!
I had a cheap blender before, and it had problems crushing ice. Not with this Vitamix. But I do notice that it does take a bit longer to crush the frozen strawberries, and you have to add some liquid in there to help with the mix, otherwise the whole thing wont mix well. Do you guys thaw your frozen fruits first before throwing them in the blender? Or do you guys just throw in the frozen fruits unthawed?
Another favorite of mine is making vegetable drinks. Yea I know it's not a real juicer. But a juicer takes far too long to clean. I like carrot juice. But if you add a lot of carrots, because of all the carrot pulp in there, it wont taste really good. I usually mix some carrots, 2 celery stems, a fresh apple, some water, a couple of ice cubes, and I have a very tasty vegetable drink. I don't like eating vegetables, so this way I am getting my fare of fresh veggies everyday.
I also made some peanut butter, just by grinding some raw peanuts. But that takes a bit longer. If you take it stop the blending too soon, it wont be all smooth. It's amazing to see whole peanuts ground up literally into peanut butter.
Will I keep this blender? It is a damn expensive blender. But so far I've been using it everyday. It's the most used small kitchen appliance I have. Who knows, maybe...
