Good morning people hope all is well on this beautiful Sunday morning. Anyways, I have a Q: Currently, I am using the Athena Point 5MKII speaker package and have noticed the center speaker is not very clear and is sorta on the weak side. I mean it is really hard to hear the dialogue so I end up turning it up so loud that my subwoofers disturb my neighbors. How much better or clearer would the Athena Audition Series C1.2 be if I got one???? Also, am seriously thinking about changing my fronts to the Athena ASB1.2's---so how much of a difference would this make????? Lastly, would the S.5's be ok in the rear for 5.1???? Would it really make that MUCH of a difference if I got another set of the ASB1.2's for rear instead???? More specifically, how would the ASC1.2 center compare to the Paradgim cc-170 v.3/4???? I used to own one and am quite familiar with it. Is it better/clearer than the cc-170??? I prefer a clear crisp sounding center as opposed to one that is not real clear and inefficient. Keep in mind that I am using a Yamah RX-V757 receiver to power everything. Please help me out here people because bigPhil needs the help....LOL!!!! Have a great day.:)

I don't know much about the Athena's. You made a comment that you have turn it up in order to understand dialouge from the the center channel. Have you checked your speaker balancing lately? Perhaps the reciever lost track of its callibration. Just a thought.

Good morning. Like bandit, I have never heard Athena's either. I am a huge Paradigm fan...so you know where I stand. However, I have heard some negative things about the 170; most people suggest stepping up to the 370 or 470, but now you're in a whole other class. I've seen you post elsewhere, so I'm pretty sure you already realize this...the importance of timbre-matching the fronts. You have mentioned that you may be replacing the fronts, rather than just purchasing a new center. I'm of the opinion, "How often does one purchase his front three ht speakers?" If, in fact, you are going to replace all front three, I would suggest saving up to get a good set of Paradigm Monitors or Studios, or any other reputable brand that you like the sound of. Cheers.

Yes I have done that in fact I ran the YPAO function then did some manual fine tuning. The sad part is I am only about 10 feet from the speaker. It just is weak BUT what can I expect from a speaker that has 4" mid drivers if you know what I mean.

well... since you say the center is weak, why dont you boost the center up inyour settings without turning the main volume up so the subwoofer dont get any louder.

Yes, I have heard that this system get negative reviews b/c some claim the center is a weak link.

That was done when I fine tuned the center after running the YPAO. It still is very weak. Actually, the Athena Point 5MKII speaker set has been very well received. It is not bad for what I gave for it---just was hoping to get more out of it RATHER than replace it.

well, If you boosted the center channel up (this would not be under calibration, but more preference) a more efficient center would be a better option.

The AS-C1.2 should match well with the point 5's, as all Athena speakers seem to carry the same, bright sound.

If you wanted, the old fronts you had could go as rears and you could have a 5.1 setup with the Audition series up front and the point 5s in the rear.
