DTS 3/2.1 means 3 fronts and 2 surround plus LFE.

Try "Flight of the Phoenix" the new version with Dennis Quaid (the original one was with James Stewart). In DTS audio, the low altitude fly over of the plane front to back of the screen will leave you amazed (good demo for your sub). Rented the picture twice and bought the DVD Friday.

You might look at U-571 also, depth charges will be remembered.

If you can find the Saving Private Ryan DTS version, that is considered by many to be one of the best soundtracks on a DVD to date.

I really enjoy all the Lord of the Rings extended editions because they are DTS 6.1 discrete and all the speakers and the sub get a good workout.

For the best DTS disc. I would say the Demo #9 disc.
Oh, you meant movie.
Well, in that case. There are plenty.
One of my favs. is Terminator 2.

Actually with T2 when watching in DD compared to DTS. There is a very distinct difference in some of the surround sounds. Particulary, when they are at the mall, and John runs through the back corridors. The Terminators first meet, and the shotgun sound from Arnold is quite different and much better in DTS over DD.

As far as deep bass, the chase seen in T3 is great (but mine is in DD). Also DTS Das Boot is good (however the DTS track is only in German - DD is in English)

Also Gladiator and A.P. Goldmember in 6.1 is very good.

Some others DTS discs I have (but not all)
- The Running Man
- Predator
- A.I. Artificial Intelligence
- Apollo 13
- The Butterfly Effect (Director's Cut)
- Field Of Dreams
- I, Robot
- Minority Report
- Elektra
- The Beastmaster
- E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
- The Last of the Mohicans
- Punch Drunk Love
- Master and Commander
- Top Gun
- U-571
- Labyrinth
- Cast Away
- The Fifth Element

Also all 3 LOTR special editions (thanks majorloser)

Could be the receiver adjusting for the DialNorm value - but it would only be for Dolby Digital. What receiver do you have?

what is Dialnorm value?

its an Onkyo ds 777

DialNorm is a value in the bitstream that specifies the average level of the dialog. The standard is -31 dB. If the DialNorm value says the average level is say -27 dB, then the receiver would reduce the volume by 4 dB to bring the level to the 'normal dialog' level of -31 dB. THX certified receivers look for the DialNorm value, others may not.

The DS 777 is a few models back from the current Onkyo lineup so I don't know offhand if it is THX select certified or not. Onkyo also has the IntelliVolume feature (not related to DialNorm), which will also show the adjustment on the display if you have it set. Do you know if the DS 777 has IntelliVolume?
