Yet another question about the RTi12/10

Ok guys,
Again, I can't thank you enough for your help choosing my 5.1 speaker setup! This time I need help choosing a set for my dad. He is looking to get a 50" tv and needs speakers to go with it. He wants to get them through my circuit city discount so I am limited to Polk. Here's the thing though. He doesn't really care that much about surround sound of any kind and to be honest, his room is not at all good for proper surround speaker placement. So I am thinking that a quality stereo setup would be perfect for his needs. I can get him the Harman Kardon HK 3480 stereo receiver rated at 120w per 2 channels. Would that receiver be enough to power a pair of RTi12's? If not how bout the RTi10's? I have heard from many of you that the RTi series are closer to 4 OHM than 8 therfore they would need a very high powered receiver to do them justice. In your opinion how would this setup be? Remember, you are only allowed one complete setup per year through Polk Audio accommodations, which is 2 Fronts, 1 Center, 2 Rears, and 1 sub.

If you are getting him the HK receiver, get the Infiniti Beta speakers.

The only Polk speaker I have ordered so far is the Sub. All the rest are Infinities. Actually I am close to my limit on infinity for the year which is why I am limited to Polk for the towers. Thanks

well if no one thinks the HK 3480 won't be able to power the RTi12's than I will probably order them in the next week or so, but I would still love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Thanks

The HK 3480 receiver will be able to drive the RTi12's, but may struggle at reference levels. Since you are only powering two speakers with a solid two channel receiver, I don't see a problem. Just make sure to keep the receiver well ventilated, as HK's are known to get toasty.

PS - If his room is on the "live" side, I'd recommend the RTi10's. If not, go with the RTi12's. Live meaning hardwood floors, no window coverings, and lots of reflective surfaces.

His floor is carpeted and there are covers over the windows so I will probably get him the 12's. I cant see him ever really cranking the sound. He is far more interested in crisp clean sound at lower volume. The only time it will be really be tested is when I am at his house Thanks again guys I'm not sure exactly when he going to do it but I think it will be soon. I will let ya know how it turns out
