OK, so I see that the RX-V2500 refurbs are under $400 at various sites now. I have been contemplating the Denon 3805 or the 2500 for about 4 months now. I recently sold a low end Sony and Sony surround speaker package and am currently without any components. I figure since my basement is still in the remodeling phase, I would keep an eye out for good deals. Is this just too good of a deal to pass up? I'm not too concerned about the lack of HDMI on this receiver...unless I sould be? I normally prefer to go from source to TV anyway...so I would probably just spend the money on a good DVD player. In your experiences, will this price just keep going down or should I grab one now. In the end, it will probably just be collecting dust for the next 6 months, until I buy some speakers. Thanks.

That's a good deal, comparable to the lowest street prices you'll find. Do a froogle search and you'll find that price point is not an isolated event.

If you are looking for bang/buck time always favors the purchaser- if you won't have a place to set this up for a few months IMO its better that you wait... in my experience prices almost always drop over time, you'll either get this receiver for a little less money (folks upgrading selling them), or you'll get a better receiver for the $400.

That said, if the receiver is the missing component in an otherwise ready-to-go system this looks good. I have the 2500 and am very happy with it.

This is essentially the same receiver as the HTR-5890 that I have only the 2500 has a couple more features and looks nicer. I got mine for $550 and consider it to be a great deal. Good luck.

I agree with wilkenboy.

I just bought (about 5-6 weeks ago) the 2500 new with Yamaha's full warrenty when tweeter had them for $500 in store only. I too had an older Sony and had to upgrade or go insane with the lack of features. I love the 2500. My old Ohm Model C's sound better/less strained with clearer midbass. (Just to use the Buckeyefan1 quality assesment method of weighing...The Yamaha smokes the old Sony by 15+ pounds.)

But again like wilkenboy advised, the 2600 could be $400 on ubid a couple of months from now...

I beleive the 5890 is comparible to the 1500...which drives your point home even better!:)

Refurbished Yamaha

A couple weeks back ubid had some refubished RX-V1600s for <$500. Keep an eye out for these deals if you are interested in some HDMI features. Otherwise, the 2500 and an HDMI switch (if necessary) is a good way to go and a major upgrade from your old system.

God Bless Ubid. I picked my 2500 up for $550 as a "b-stock" when its street price was around $700. The only thing "B-stock" about it was the sticker on the box it came in.
