Yamaha zone two airplay volume control

Good evening - I have an a2070 set up with zone two audio output to a pair of speakers. If i use AirPlay from my iPhone on zone 1 I can control the volume from my phone using its volume up and down buttons on the side of the device. However, when using airplay ONLY in zone two, I hear the music but I have to use the amp or its iOS app to control the volume. If I just use the iPhone’s buttons I see the volume displayed and it looks like it’s increasing or decreasing but that has no effect on the audio level. Again - this works on zone 1, but I have to open the Yamaha app to adjust the volume on zone two.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Musiccast app or controller Yamaha app? Did you try both?

Hi - thanks for responding - I don't know what you mean - I can definitely change the volume of airplay sourced material using the Yamaha App. What I'd like to do is to be able to use the side buttons on my iphone to control the volume of the airplay audio that I'm transmitting from my iphone. I can do this on Zone 1, but not on Zone 2.

Yamaha has 2 apps. Yamaha controller app and Yamaha Musicast app.

OK... still don't see how this is helping. I don't want to use ANY apps to control volume. I don't want to use any apps to control Airplay at all. I put on the source on my iphone, and I "airplay it" to my receiver. I then want to control the volume using my iphone, regardless of what's on my iphone. Again... this works when Airplay is playing in Zone 1. When I Airplay something ONLY to Zone 2, I hear the audio which is great, but can't control the volume ONLY with the iphone buttons. Again... I don't want to use any apps.

No idea if this is possible. I have Yamaha receivers in each room and I can Airplay to any of them directly to their main zone. No zone 2 in my case.

Yep - love it when I Airplay in the main zone. If I'm doing Apple Music and it gets a bit loud whilst at dinner, I just hit the button on the side of my phone to turn the volume down. Much more convenient than having to lift and unlock my phone, finding the app and then touching the screen to reduce the volume within the Musicast/Yamaha app - also since it's touch screen, inevitably that method makes you turn it down too far or not enough...one touch of a button makes life easy. Just wish that worked in Zone 2!
