Hello all!!! I am new to this but here goes. I am planning to purchase a new receiver and I am not sure where to go. I am looking at a new Yamaha V1500 and V2400 and would like to know if any of you out there can give me any input. I have always been a Sony man (Sony DEH 945) and was looking to upgrade to a new 7 channel unit. I have been looking at the Sony units but now the Yamaha have caught my eye. Which one to buy, 1500 or 2400??? Thanks!!!

If you have the money - the V2500 is out next month and has finally made it to the Yamaha website. Give it a look as well. You can get some good deals on the 2400 right now as manufacturers are trying to make way for the 2500 though.

Thanks for the reply. I know that the 2500 will be out soon but I don't have the bucks to spare for the differance and would like to know which one would be the best "bang for the bucks", 1500 or 2400? I can get a 1500 for about the same as the 2400 right now.

Can someone please answer the original question, I would like to make a purchase in the next few days, I am also deciding between the 2 aforementioned receivers, plus refurb denon 2805 and 3805, like the poster, price is an isssue but noit the ultimate issue. I am running boston accoustics and mirage speakers. Will the 1500 sound better than the 2400? and what are the key features the 2400 would have that the 1500 won't.

The 1500 and 2400 will likely sound about the same. No offense, but if its so urgent that you find out the differences between the two why don't you help yourself out and go straight to the Yamaha website and download the manuals for each?

A little of your own effort is more important for making a decision than basing one solely on the opinions of other posters.

The Denon are good receivers but I do not like the fact that they do not put any inputs on front of the receiver. This may not mean anything to you but I need those inputs for camcorders and such. I know the Denon has the touchscreen remote but I like the features of the Yamaha 1500 at a lot less price. If you want, you may just wait till the Yamaha 2500 comes out.

My opinion is to go to the 1500 coz they will use new Chips/LSI's like the 1400/2400 against RXV650/750 the laters used newer LSI's which are made by Yamaha,But more more important that he 1500 will have Pure Direct Mode for stereo which is better than the normal direct mode found on 1400/2400.

just say "NO" to Denon refurbs

I'm recommending you avoid the Denon refurbs for now. The fact that these models have been out a VERY short time and have had quite a few returns is scarey in itself. Add to this, the Denon factory warranty on a refurb unit is only 90 days. If they broke already, you don;t have any way to tell if something is going to break reasonably soon.

It's not like buying a refurbed -03 type Denon, where they have been out a while. Any production problems and weak points have long ago come to light and were most likely fixed prior to you buying a refurb. The -05's have been out so short that you don;t know what else can go wrong, and 90 days isn;t enough to find out. :(

Even at the 70 % rule (refurb equal to 70 per cent or less of STREET PRICE- not MSRP) these would be a serious risk.

Thanks I totally agree which is why if I did purchase one it would be with a 3/4 yr extended warranty!!
