Yamaha V2092 + A3080 > or < RX-A8?

Greetings,

I am the original owner of a Yamaha V2092 receiver. I love it so much. It has served me well for two decades. But I'm finally upgrading my Home Theater and need some advice. I have two paths forward:

1- I buy the Yamaha A3080 9.2 (11 channel processing) and use the 2092 as the external amp for the two channels to take it to 11.2. I have done some reading and it seems that this is feasible. It was pointed out to me that the 2092 has pre-out/main-in jacks for the L/R front channels, so this should work.

2- I wait and buy the mythical Yamaha RX-A8, which will apparently amplify all 11 channels.

I am partial to Option 1 because I have a (mostly) irrational relationship with inanimate objects. It also adds power to the system, although my speakers aren't particularly power hungry. That said, Option 2, would be cleaner, two years newer tech (not sure what the consequences of this are), wouldn't have to worry about what to do when the 2092 finally dies, etc.

As you can tell, I live with these decisions for a long time, so I like to get them right. What advice do you have? Thanks!

Both options are good for sure.

But if you must have 11Ch of Amps, then I would just wait for the RX-A8.

Although I'm still wondering if the A8 actually has 11CH of Amps and not just 11Ch-Processing. :D

I am not a fan of putting 11Ch amps inside an AVR, but if Yamaha can somehow do this and maintain the reliability to high standards, then that's great.

Your old Yamaha still working after 2 decades? :D

Yes! It's working and working well--although at this point we only use the optical input. It has survived 7 moves and a bunch of kids--still chugging along.

Wait for the RX-A8. It's supposed to speak Bocci!
