Yamaha TT-400U Turntable - help!

I appreciate your expertise. I just received a turntable (Yamaha TT-400U) that I bought on eBay. The turntable looks to be in fairly good condition but it has a proprietary ground plug-in that is separate from the audio jacks. The problem is that the turntable did not come with the ground wire. I have an Onkyo receiver TX-SR507 (new recently) and it has no phono inputs. Consequently, I have a Behringer PP-400 Phono Preamp which does have a post for the ground connection.

In the Yamaha Turntable Owner's Manual it states that sometimes the turntable's sound works better without the ground connection depending on the receiver/amplifier used. I have not heard back from the seller whether the ground wire is a reality for this turntable. How crucial is the ground wire in this case as to the overall safety of my sound system? Is there a way to get a ground wire for this Yamaha turntable even though it is an older model?
Or should I just return the table to the seller unless she can produce the appropriate ground wire connection? I hestitate to test the turntable until I have the ground wire or until I feel that it is safe to test it without the ground wire in place.

Any and all help is appreciated as I am new to wanting to return to vinyl.
Thank you for your assistance.
