i have the ysp 4000 series except my room does not have a proper back wall...

does anyone have one of these things?

what do you find best

my surround

if its no back wall, id say my surround. are you using a sub with it?

I think the YSP 4000 bounces sound off of the room sidewalls for surround sound, so if you have a open floor plan with a wall that opens to a great room for example, you might not want to run it in surround mode. I don’t think lack of a back wall affects the way the unit functions. You need to have a subwoofer with soundbars for any bass. Also I don't know how large a room they will work in without strainiing (i.e. SPL output).

There is a lot of information on Yamaha sound bars here where I think you can learn a lot about design of their soundbars in general and maybe an explanation of their operating modes and room setup:

I think the soundbars are cool - just put a good subwoofer with it.
