Yamaha RXV463 vs 465

The RXV 465 has many more features than the 463 ,but no 5.1 surround analog inputs and the power consumption seems similar between both the models at 3.2A.

Is it true that the power amp section has been compromised on the RXV465? and mainly how does it sound.

The 665 model is severely crippled in power compared to the 663 model 3.2 A vs 5 amps for the 663, but i think they have left the power amp section untouched in the 465 and 365 models.

The RXV 465 has been launched in India and i am planning to pull the trigger soon.

Any help is really appreciated.

What else is new?

Hi,

You seem well informed to make your own choice. :)

Just pick the one with the feature list that suits you best.
If that 465 feature list rocks your boat, just get it. :)
That's what I think.

Cheers,

Bob

I like the 463 it's probably cheaper, and they are essentially the same receiver. With HDMI you don't need the analog inputs.

Basically i dont use SACD or DVD audio these are dead formats i prefer DVD concert videos a lot.

In terms of sound quality will there be a noticeable difference. I heard the 2009 yamaha line has skimped on amplifiers.

For multichannel SACD and DVD-Audio, yes you do.
Not necessarily. The 465 can decode DVD-A and SACD signals that come in over HDMI. If someone has a disc player that will output those over HDMI, then they are good to go.

Thanks Adam for that info.

About the 463?

And what's your take on the Yammy 65 series compared to the 63 series and also the 61 series? Overall wise?

Thanks again,
Bob

The only two that I've really looked at are the 663 and 665. The drastic reduction in connectivity and input assignment in the 665 make me not like it so much. My friend was looking at the 665, but (IIRC) there's no good way to connect a PS2 because there isn't an input that has both analog audio and component video.

If the 665 covers someone's connectivity desires, then I've got no issue with it.

Ya, but does it decode DSD bitstream and DVD-Audio through it's HDMI inputs?

* DSD from SACD might be downconverted to LPCM.
Bitstream, no. But the 663 and 665 are the same in that they can handle DVD-A via PCM and SACD via DSD.

The xx5 Yamaha models have left me completely unimpressed.
My choice, given the two you gave, would be the 663.
It would no doubt be less expensive and have a better amp section.

I have a 663 and it is a good receiver. The 665 is anemic compared. Yamaha really did a number on the power this year. And no assignable inputs. I'm having flashbacks to when Kenwood used to be a kick a-- audio company that made amazing high end equipment. Then the cheap stuff for the masses started popping up at every corner discount store. (Unfortunately that was my first and last kenwood, expecting what my brother owned in the early 80's). I just converted to a denon 1910 and it blows my 663 out of the water. Check out the 1610 if you're looking at the 465.

Thanks Adam, but I was asking about the 463.

[SACD via DSD straight is Bitstream, but if downconverted by the receiver to PCM, it is outputted as multichannel LPCM, still, very good; and if not downconverted but passed through, untouched, it is then Bitstream directly outputted, but still as good; ;) all happening in the receiver's Dac(s).]

* By the way, I also thought the 63 series is more desirable.

I agree with you. :)

* By the way Nomo, you own the Yamaha RX-V1800.
How would you like to see the guts of your receiver?

Here: http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2008/Yamaha_RX-V1800_01.shtml

>>> At the bottom of each page on the left side, there is some blue lettering saying "Weiter zu Seite 2", (just click on that) and up to page 5. So, all together there are 5 pages.

I know, I know, it's in German, but it's just for looking at the nice pictures.
And the final score on the 1800 is the best (Reference, full 10 stars :) ).
Excellent verdict ("Fazit").

Perhaps you already saw it, but anyway, let me know if you enjoyed it.

Cheers,

Bob

Again, I agree with you cjsiv.

About some pictures of the externals and internals from your previous Yamaha RX-V663, and also the Denon AVR-1909, which is pretty much the same as your newer 1910.
I thought that you might like that. :)

Here:

* Yamaha RX-V663 -> http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2008/yamaha_rx_v663.shtml

* Denon AVR-1909 -> http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2009/denon_avr1909.shtml

>>> And check, there is more than just one page. Well, one page for the Yamaha RX-V663, and two pages for the Denon AVR-1909.
~ And by the way, the Denon 1909 final verdict "Fazit" is a perfect score:
Reference, a full 10 stars. :)

Cheers,

Bob
