Yamaha RXV2600 Zone 2 Optical Input

My CD input is set up to use the digital optical input. This works great for playing audio on the main zone, but when i try set the CD as the input for zone 2, the audio does not play. If i connect the RCA style connectors then zone 2 will play the audio. The problem is that the CD source is connected to the receiver via a 30' toslink and it will be a real pain to install a 30' RCA style cable to connect the CD. Is there any way for zone 2 to play audio from a digital connection?

Thanks,
Taylor

Not on your receiver . . .

If your CD player has decent D/A converters then you could replace the toslink cable with an RCA cable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 use. Otherwise you will need both cables.

Often Zone 2 on receivers do not allow any digital interfaces to be used, I am not sure why.

B/C it would involve adding another DAC stage to the Zone2 preamp section.

Unless you have a 5805, you will have to use analog connections for Zone 2 and 3.

Thanks again!

I just read an updated 2600 manual on Yamaha's website that confirmes jcPanny's, Gene's and Seth's responses. I also want to thank everyone for their input. This site is awesome, whenever i have had a question it is usually answered in a few hours. Cheers Audioholics! Now off to Bluejeans cables to buy a 30' RCA cable...
