Yamaha RXV2600 won't switch on

I've had a Yamaha RXV2600 for about 3 years now - it's given good service as a hub for my PS3/Sky box/DVD and Wii.

However, it suddenly decidres it doesnt want to turn on. If I press the master button in, nothing happens, no clunk after a few seconds and nothing on the display.

If I then press the Main Zone button, it gives a faint double click as if it is trying to switch on, but can't. There is definately power being fed to the unit (it isn't a blown fuse in the main plug!)

I suspect the protection circuitry might be stopping it power up, but then wouldnt I get something on the display first? I'm getting nothing on the display at all.

I've checked speaker cables to make sure nothing is shorting - can't see any problem there.

Hoping someone can give some advice here - its my first time on these forums. Any advice anyone? (I'm lost without this amp - it is, quite literally, the centre of my AV universe!!)

Disconnect all your speakers from the receiver end and power up teh reciever to see if it turns on. If it doesn't turn on, then there's a problem with the recvr. If it does turn on, wire the speakers in one at a time turning on teh power to see which line maybe shorted out.

I tried unplugging all the speakers. No joy, In fact I unplugged eveything except the mains lead and it still wont switch on so I guess something inside is fried. Off to the repair shop - hope it isnt going to be an expensive fix!

I had the same exact symptoms with my Onkyo 805, had to send it to a regional center in Colorado where it turns out it was a bad solder joint which is a frequent thing happening to recievers nowadays, since they stopped using lead in solder, so the failure rate has skyrocketed in recievers with this problem. Mine would turn on for about two seconds and then just go out again, over and over again till I got it fixed.
