Christmas day and my 6 month old Yamaha RXV2500 wll not power on.

I tried to turn it on and it came on for a split second and turned off. I tried again and same thing happened. Now nothing. It won't even blink.

Any ideas?

Did you try to unconnect all speakers before switch on? I recommend it. If Ya is OK try to connect one speaker and try again. If OK continue to connect next speaker. I think you will discover one speaker whom hase short-connect on terminal or on the cable. Avoid it and all will be OK.
On other hand some mistake can appears in receiver also. In this case I recommend to visit authorised service.

If checking the speaker wires doesn't identify the problem, go through the factory reset procedure for the unit. You will loose all your custom settings but it may get you back up and running.

The believe the procedure is in the manual. If you can't find it do a search on the forums here, I know I have seen it here.

Best wishes for Christmas day! :D

Well my wife gave me permission to play so my brother in law and I did the following

1) we un hooked all the speaker wires (which looked fine) then un plugged the power cord. Plugged the cord back in and hit power. The system came on for a second then powered down again. Tried two more times then the machine wouldn't come back at all.

2) The reset procedure I found was within the forum not in my manual and we tried this. It did not work either.

I am at a loss again.

Sorry to hear these troubles.

It seems you have internal problems. Most likely an internal short. Hope it is still under warranty.

It sounds like something is wrong in the power supply. Or it could also be there is a short somewhere in side the reciver. If it is staying on for say over 30 seconds and cutting off it is probably a short and heat issue. But for less than 10 seconds prob power supply problem.

UPDATE:D

I left the power off and unplugged for 8 days. I plugged the system back in and hit power and it is working.

To reset the reciever you need to shut off power for a week. Tech support mentioned that by unplugging it for a week drained all power out of the system and this may have cleared an issue in one of the components.

Beyond me but thought I owed the forum a follow up.

That is strange indeed. The caps would discharge nothing else to loose anything. So, why would it shut off. Hopefully this won't happen again.
