Yamaha RXV1500 Zone 2 Problem

I just got my ceiling speakers installed in my kitchen and hooked up the amp to run them. If I hook up just a CD player or something to the amp in the kitchen, everything works fine, so I know the problem is in the zone 2 output of my Yamaha. I changed the code from 2000 to 2001 for the zone 2 and zone 3. I made sure that both zones are turned on and have tried both the zone 3 and zone 2 outputs on the receiver. Nothing seems to be coming out of the zone outputs though. If I crank the volume all the way up on the amp in the kitchen, you can hear a VERY little amount of music coming out of the ceiling speakers. I have the zone output volume set to 'fixed' on the receiver, and also tried it at 'variable'. Neither seems to make a difference. I don't know if maybe something is wrong with my receiver or what it could be? Am I just not doing something right or? I used RG-6 coax between the receiver and the amp in the kitchen. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks

I'm a little unclear on what you mean when you say ' I used rg6 coax from the receiver to the amp'. Do you mean you connect the zone2 preouts on the receiver to the amp using 2 coax cables with rca connectors on the end?

If so, then you want to check the setup menus and see if you have enabled the zone2 pre-outs. Most 7.1 receivers can either power the zone2 itself (limiting you to 5.1 in the main zone) or send the signal out the zone2 preouts. You want the setting where the receiver is not powering zone2 if you have the amp connected to the zone2 preouts.

Secondly, the source device you connect to the receiver must be connected with analog cables for it to play in zone2. If you connect a cd player to the receiver using only a digital optical or coax cable, it will not be ouput to zone2. This is a restriction of every multi-room/multi-source receiver I've ever seen.

Yes I have RCA ends on both ends of the coax. To plug into the zone 2 output, and to the input jacks on the kitchen amp. I have made sure that the zone output is turned on on my receiver and made sure that it is set to send the signal output, not to use the receiver itself to power zone 2. I also tried using the zone 3 output on my receiver, which doesnt have the option of powering the zone with the receiver, it just has the signal output, and that didn't work either. I tried it both with the CD player which uses analog inputs, and also tried it with the receivers tuner, which didn't do anything either. Thanks for the reply, hopefully we can get this figured out and I don't have to take my receiver in already for servicing.

Try connecting to the main zone pre-outs to see if a signal is getting through.

I don't understand what you mean by this. I have tried the zone 2 and zone 3 outputs. Zone 1 is just the receiver itself so there isnt any zone 1 or main zone outputs except for the ones which are used when using other amps to power your main room speakers.

I believe he means hook up the cables that are currently connected to zone 2 into the main preouts. Preferably right and left front. This would verify that the cables and connections going to the zone 2 reciever are good.
