They are both well constructed with matching sound, the Marantz is more forgiving with speakers whereas the Yamaha sound is dependent on the type of speakers used.

What do you mean with Yamaha`s receivers been more dependant with speakers? This means not all speakers are good with this receiver?

I choose Tannoy brand to go along my RX-V440 receiver. Did I choose wrong??

Yamaha sets its 'Q' differently than others making it sound thin and bright with some speakers. OTOH with Yamaha's own, B&W, Maggies, Cantons and many others, Yamaha sounds detailed and tight. Havent heard with Tannoys so cant comment on that but if it sounds good to you, that is all that needs to be done.

Then there are some who hate the Yamaha sound in general considering it to be thin and extra bright.

I think Yamahaluver is right coz I've listend to RX_v440 connected to Yamaha Speaker 515 series and the sound is perfect but..when they hooked up the Yamaha RX-V540 with Yamaha speaker 515 series, the sound was a bit poor. So I guess u have to listen to know which combination is the bst for ur taste.Even RX-V440 connected to Yamaha speaker NSC55,NSS55 and NS7390 the sound is not impressive. In other words, even among Yamaha brand also u have to listen to it.
