Can anyone please help me make up my mind. I'm can't decide between Yamaha RXV 2700 and Pioneer VSX 84 or maybe even Denon 3806. Can someone in just simple way tell me which one to go for. What is the best one?:confused:

The best one is the one that has all the features you need/want and is easiest to operate. People no doubt have their preferences but to make up your own mind you need to learn the subtle differences between them and one of the best ways to do that is to go to each manufacturer's website and download the manuals for the models you are considering.

I have done that and the problem is I don't know much about these features.
If someone give me the advice which one to choose and why it would be very appreciated. thank you

Sorry can't really help - but I was looking a year ago and my fianl comparision was Yamaha RX-V2600 vs Pioneer VSX AX4AVi (USA: 74)

I chose Yamaha finally
* It had upscaling (Not just upconvert)
* One can adjust separately the incoming volume level for each input
* OSD over HDMI
* was little cheaper
(In the other points either the difference wasn't noticeble, or it's a feature I didn't need - eg. IPod connection in Pioneer)

So that was the situation a year ago - you could take a look at these features with this years models. (I think priceadvantage is gone as 2700 cost more than 2600)

Hi Everyone, Im new on the board.. my first post.

Im actually in the market for a new reciever, and Im looking at both of these recievers as options myself...

Earlier in the year i was locked on the 2600 after much research.. but decided to wait a while, and ended up spending money in my studio setup instead. Im glad I waited.. now with the 2700, and the 84txsi there are so many more useable options included..

At first I thought it would be a no brainer and just go for the updated 2700, but after a bit of research, I came across the 84txsi.. with an extra HDMI port, THX certification and processing, and Faroudja DCDi Scaler, pretty much pushed my decision.

Ive actually still been using until now.. a Pioneer VSX-D3S ( yep, first gen Dolby Digital AC3 wowwwwwwwwwww lol ) Im surprised its lasted this long, with little to no problems. So im hoping this next pioneer until lasts..... at least till they come out with 8ch True HD onboard processing ! :D

2700 issue

I have been looking at both the 2700 and the VSX84 as well. One issue that really stood out for me on the 2700 (actually a deal breaker) is that the manual states NOT to connect a speaker when using a corresponding pre-out (I plan on using 2 centers and using the pre-out to a mono amp for the second center). I called Yamaha and all they could tell me was an "overloading issue" and doing so would void the warranty. Can anybody shed any light on this issue?

Is this your first receiver. If so, then I would not aim so high!! Just a thought.:)

My brother has been hunting for a possible receiver replacement. IMO we preferred the elite 84 over the yamaha model you mentioned. We base this on the detail of music pumped from a yamaha server into both units.

While I respect your preference for one brand over another (we all have a preference - mine is neither Yamaha nor Pioneer) the reality is that there isn't a night and day difference between brands at similar price points.

The speakers and the room account for 90% or more of the sound your hear.

I'm pretty confident that you could make use of two center channel speakers by connecting a Y-adapter to the pre out and running those two outputs to a two channel external amp.

Out of curiousity are you using two center channels in the same room? Are you using one abouve and one below a projection screen? I would not recomend using two speakers runing the same channel in close proximity because of wave cancelation.

Good luck,
