Yamaha RxV 2600 vs Yamaha RxV3900

I am considering upgrading from a Yamaha RxV 2600 to Yamaha RxV3900. I have the 2600 hooked to a 42" Panasonic Plasma (1080P) and a Panasonic Blu Ray dvd, and a Direct TV DVR, all with HDMI cables. I cannot get sound from the Blu Ray so I have an optical cable between it and the receiver. (I believe that this is because the 2600 receiver does not support 1080P, but I'm not sure). My question is this....What will I gain in picture and sound quality by upgrading? If the gain is negligible, it may not make senses to spend the $1300. on the 3900.

No, the RX-V2600 does not support 1080p, nor does it support 7.1 PCM over HDMI, only 5.1 PCM over HDMI, these are the reasons I went from the RX-V1600 to the RX-V1800, but since I had also upgraded tv's too, I can't say I noticed a difference or not. But I would say you would see an improvement, but I would also say check out the RX-V1900 instead of the RX-V3900, unless you really need the extras that it adds, which in my book aren't worth the extra money.
