Hi guys, FANTASTIC group you have here! Hope i can be of assistance when called for!

I have a drama at home with my Amp. I have a panasonic DMP-BD35 blu-ray player with a RXV-1800 Amp, 7.2 Dahli speakers to a 58" Panasonic plasma.
I went away for a month and my room mate decided to plug in a Laser disc player to copy his LD's to a DVD. I get back home to find that my amp doesnt want to output sound as Dolby HD anymore when playing a blu-ray disc (Golden compass, Ironman, Terminator salvation, etc..). I tried resetting it to factory settings and hooked up like i did at first, but no go... im at my wits end. Not even yamaha could help me :(
Even playing a normal DVD it wont play in 5.1, yet when i run thru the Yamaha setup, all channels are online and audible. All the equipment is hooked up via Monster HDMI, speaker and Optical cables. Everything IS hooked up right... yet what setting am i missing!?

Im hoping its just a simple problem.

Thanks for taking the time to read guys! :)

Since it went down when your room mate messed with it when you were gone, try asking him to back track his steps. Maybe that will narrow it down.

Since you reset the Yamaha to factory default, I would take Bandphan's suggestion and look at the settings of your Blu-Ray player.

When i reset the Amp, i reset the BRP aswell, just so i could start from a clean slate. Im thinking that maybe i have missed something...

I can't help you with the Yammy due to unfamiliarity, but with the Pana... if reset, it should be fine, but in case that didn't work: make sure that PCM downmixing is not activated. Put all codecs set to "bitstream". If it is connected by BOTH optical and HDMI, remove the optical cable.

The bluray settings are very simple. Check your settings, write them down, post them here.

From there, people can help you with the Yammy.

Settings are exactly that :) And optical just comes from the TV to the Amp for the occasional decent movie.

Solution?

I have 2 Yamahas and A Denon..... on one Yamaha the input set to Auto (as do most) and somehow the input got stuck on a 2 channel cable box analog input signal....I finally solved by turning the "Memory Guard" control to off--See troubleshooting on my manual attached. Also had the problem with a Denon and completely unplugging the receiver for a minute solved it but it periodically happened again with the Denon which caused me to take it out of service....

I did take another look at the Player and there was an option about Blu-Ray 24p output. It was set to off though i couldnt set it to on for some reason.

I tried again this morning but i just couldnt get the Sub channel, rear and rear presence to work :( The amp says its in Dolby HD decoder mode but i cant see how thats possible when its missing 2 channels!?

Thanks all for your replys so far! :)

Did you put your ear to the speakers that weren'ty playing any sound just to confirm your finding?

As for the sub, did you go through your speaker size menu? WHat are they set too?

I did, and no feedback coming through. Its weird because even when i put in a normal dvd that supports 5.1 dolby i only get the front speakers, no centre, no sub- just the front left and right...

Have you tried hooking the player up to another set of inputs? Try using digital coax or the fibre optic link. Set the output of the player to bitstream and see if the Yamaha can decode this. If it can, there's something still not set quite right on the current input that you are using.
