Hello all , can anyone explain the difference in straight on a Yamaha receiver, versus Yamaha surround standard processing ? No DSP,. The reason I ask is because the standard surround mode seems better than straight . Thank you !!

As far as I can tell, they are both the same thing. You would think at least with stereo music “Direct” would bypass the sub, but it doesn’t

Iv read the manual and it says that the surround standard is 96/24 It doesn't mention what straight would be

If the RZ-9 is anything like the RX-V1800, straight disengages or bypasses any of the surround sound modes. The only one I use is the sports DSP which does an awesome job on making it sound like you're sitting in the mid level section of an arena.

Yes you are correct straight disengages all the processing , my receiver also has a surround standard and a surround enhanced ... I don't care about the enhanced I was just curious what the differences were between straight and the surround standard mode ? I just read in the manual That surround standard DTS will output 96/24 , straight does not mention anything. I'm pretty sure, correct me if I'm wrong , the cinema DSP modes do not even do 96/24 ? It seems to me though from listening back-and-forth, surround standard adds a little bit more of an effect than straight does

you're correct I do love the sport mode as well and I really enjoy the Yamaha app so I can control how big or small I want A particular venue and then copy in the parameters ..
