hello. i currently own the Yamaha RX-V2092 and have been very happy with it. I'm looking at purchasing a new receiver and have narrowed it down to the RX-Z1 and RX-V2400. want to stay with yamaha as i've been happy with them. i looked at some comparison charts on the web for these 2 models and even though the V2400 goes for about $500-$1000 less it seems that is has more features than the Z1.
anyone have any suggestions between the two? would prefer to spend less money, but coming from the 2092 i don't want to sacrafice quality to do so. what do you think?
thanks, marc

If those are your choices and you don't mind sacrificing a few features such as:
1) YPAO
2) PLIIx
3) Component Video Upconversion

and you plan on using the internal amps of the receiver,

Then I would pick the Z1 in a heartbeat! The Z1 has a better amp section, DAC's and overall smoother and more dynamic sound.

Having been a previous owner of Z-1 and now the Z-9, I fully concur with Gene's assesment, the Z-1 has really good amp section and even when it is under full strain, it doesnt loose composure. Also the DAC is as good as the ones on my Z-9.

 I'm under the impression he would also be losing some additional low frequenecy management--9-step subwoofer crossover selection--by going with the rx z1. And considering a $1000 increase in the price tag it might be in ones best interest to settle for the 2400 and pick a nice external amp in the near future if he is not happy with the performance of the 2400's internal amplifiers.

Gene, do you know if Yamaha has any plan to release a mid-priced receiver in the near future? i.e something to fall inbetween the 2400 and the Z9--we'll say a z1 with a few of the rx v2400's features.

Just my 2 cents advice, I just auditioned today the rxv 2400, compared to onkyo txnr 900, it just took me 5 min. to decide to go for onkyo...but in fairness try to audition them both, we were unanimous though in choosing onkyo 900....

 Please, you have left me intrigued. What was the deciding factor? or was there more then one? I'm on the hunt for a new receiver or processor at around the $1500-$2200 range and any advice would be appreciated!

Another vote for the Z1 here. I just picked one up for 1250 used and its really great :) Not that the 2400 is a bad unit or anything. I just think youll be far more satisfied with the Z1 all around from build quility to the amp section etc. Its probly worth waiting an extra week or two to pay for it.
