Yamaha RX-V683 7.1 Setup

Hi,

First time post, but I have some questions about 7.1 setup. I have a Yamaha RX-V683 hooked up to 7.1 surround in my Media Room with the Rear Surround in my Game Room. Previously I had this setup with 5.1 and the extra speakers as Zone 2 in my kitchen. I now have a HIFI receiver to power the kitchen, so changed my setup to 7.1. So ideally, what I want is to have the Game Room speakers be the Rear Surround OR Zone 2 when needed. When I go into my receiver setup, it shows that the Rear Presence and the Zone 2 Speakers are hooked into separate ports... Can I hook the same set of speakers to both ports?

Thank you,
Kevin

What does the manual say? You can connect to the same terminals. I'd assume you have to go back to 5.1 in the setup to play zone 2. You could also by a cheap t amp and use the preouts so you dont have to keep changing the setup I'm the menu.

The manual gives directions to hook up Zone 2 with 7.1, but in all the examples zone 2 is a different set of speakers. When you enable Zone 2, the main speakers automatically switch to 5.1 and the zone 2 speakers turn on. What I want is to use the same 2 speakers for both the rear presence Zone 2.

You only have 7 channels of amplification so it's not possible that way. You can add an amp like i mentioned but you need to run analog along with digital on your sources as I'm sure they dont process digital signals except the 7chs internal.

I understand I can only have 7 channels of amplification, and that is all I am looking for. What I want to be able to do is when I'm not using 7.1, I want to use the Surround Back speakers as my zone 2 speakers. The reason I can't right now is there are 2 "extra" speaker outputs on this amp. Extra SP2 Surround Back/Zone 2 And Extra SP1 F.Presence/Zone 2. So since I have it set as 7.1+1 zone, I plug in the speakers to SP2 and the 7.1 works. Now if I turn on Zone 2, SP2 shuts off, and SP1 turns on. What I want to happen when I change to Zone 2 is SP2 change from Surround Back to Zone 2... So, what would happen if I wire my speakers to both SP1 and SP2, when SP1 is on SP2 is off and Vice Versa since I my receiver only has 7 channels.
