Just ordered a new Yamaha RX-V663 receiver and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, or tweaks they've found to get the best out of the receiver.

This has been a long and painful decission process and I don't want to screw it up now!

Using the following:
Polk RTi8...Mains
Polk FXi3...Rears
Polk CSi3...Center
HSU STF2...Sub
Yamaha RX-V663...Receiver (on the way):D
Mitsubishi DD 6030
Samsung 56" HL-S5687W

Thanks!

i got one recently also and LOVE it... very easy to set up... just be sure that if your speakers are 6 ohms you set that... its on page 106 i believe in the owners manuel... i had to look it up online to find it cause its a pretty big manuel other than that nothing really... have fun cause this is a very powerful reciever :D

I had on order the 663 - but it was taking forever - so the dealer gave me the 863 for cost (sweet). That said, I've fiddled with the settings (the are the same as the 663) quite a bit, and for my taste, I honestly found that the pure direct mode gave me the best sound for music - and now after a few weeks of ownership, that's basically all I listen to.

For tv and movies, I generally have it in 7 ch mode. As for the settings, I found that just making sure that setting the speakers to large v. small or vice versa is where I noticed the most difference. I did set everything else up manually as well - can't recall the settings off hand - and have not tried YPAO yet - though you can also manually set the speaker balance and distances as well. I can say that did help quite a bit over the default.

And so far I've found this to have plenty of power - though I seldom go above -25db on the dial.

Completely unnecessary if you have adequate ventilation!

Switching the AVR to a lower impedance sacrifices available power to maintain the CSA temperature specification.

With normal ventilation, leaving the switch at 8-ohms, the unit will provide full power and remain cool as well.
