Yamaha RX-V663 problem with Moto cable box

I recently purchased the Yamaha RX-V663 receiver. I have connected via HDMI cables my Comcast Motorola DCH6416 cable box and Hitachi 50” plasma TV (P50V701) through the Yamaha’s HDMI pass through. I use a Harmon Kardon TC30 universal remote to control the system.

The problem I am having is that when I power on the entire system, the Motorola cable box which I have set up to display at 16x9 and at 1080i, reverts back to 4x3 and 480i every time on power up. This problem does not occur when I connect the Motorola cable box directly to the TV via HDMI.
I have determined that if the TV is powered on 1st (about 10 seconds in advance) before the RX-V663 and Motorola cable box, this problem does not occur. I believe that if the RX-V663 does not see the TV far enough in advance before the power on of the cable box, the receiver is cycling down the cable box resolution somehow. I have adjusted my universal remote to power the TV on first, but everything is powered on so fast, the RX-V663 does not have time to see it before the cable box powers on. This problem is frustrating and some help would be appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to read about your frustration. Is it possible to program pauses into your universal remote? If so, you could have the TV turn on a little bit before the other components. Just a thought.

Adam, thanks for the reply. Its a Harmon Kardon TC-30. I can set the order which devices turn on, so I put the TV 1st, cable box 2nd and receiver last. It still happens way to fast. I didnt see anywhere in the manual or program to set pauses. I did try to put some fake devices in between, thinking the remote would take time to try to turn those on, but it still seems to fly right through the devices.

Any one know why the receiver is doing this?

bk, I can't answer why the receiver is doing it, but I did look a bit more into setting delays on your remote. The H/K website wasn't working for me when I tried to download the manual, and I didn't find it anywhere else.

However, from c/net's review: "The software provides advanced, macro-style options for delay times, multistep commands, and other functions." So, check the manual or software for delay times. That might help until you can troubleshoot the receiver aspect of this.
