Yamaha - RX-V663 - light frames during DVD playback

Looking for a little help with a problem I'm seeing on my new Yamaha RX-V663 receiver. I've got it hooked up using S-Video from my DVD player then S-Video to the TV. During play back there are intermittent light frames, as if there is, say, lightening flashing. It happens on the letterboxing, not just in the scene. If I replay the same portion of the scene it doesn't happen in the same spots, it's truly intermittent.

Direct connection between the DVD and TV doesn't exhibit this. It does seem to happen to DVDs that are about a year old or older (maybe I'm imagining this though).

Anyone have any ideas or has seen this behavior before?

Thanks,

Sounds like you have a bad connection or a bad cable. Possibly the one that runs from Receiver to TV. Have you tried swapping it out?

Or, as NOMO suggested, use the cable, if it will reach, that is between the receiver and TV and connect it directly to the DVD player. If the lightning flashes are there, it is the cable. If not, it is your receiver.

Can you use component video?

Yes, I've tried switching out the cables. I will try going composite.

Thanks for the help.

DVD video connection

Sounds like it might be time for a DVD player upgrade.
Does your player offer progressive scan and a component video output?
You can only get a 480i signal with the composite and svideo connections.

Check out Oppo Digital for a good HDMI upscaling DVD player.
